Can we talk about breastfeeding?

Happy National Breastfeeding Awareness Month!
This blog is a little late and I apologize as I have let life get in my way! I want to talk about something that I have become truly passionate about- Breastfeeding. Now, I am not a “crunchy” mom by far (if I were honest- and I always want to be honest with my clients!- I’m the epitome of “hot mess mom” haha!). I’m also a firm believer that FED is best- whether you struggle breastfeeding, choose not to, choose to supplement, choose to exclusively pump, or choose to extended nurse- as long as you are feeding your baby, I don’t believe it is any of society’s business how.
Eleven years ago when I was pregnant with my twins, breastfeeding was the LAST thing on my mind. No one in my family had done it, no one I KNEW had done it, and really, it wasn’t talked about as much as it is now. My husband was deployed and I had a lot more on my plate then trying to struggle learning something completely new. We did successfully latch a few times, but with everything else going on, they were primarily bottle fed. My next two daughters were both breastfed for a short time, but due to the stresses of life and slow weight-gain, both were much shorter lived than I wanted.
Then, when I was pregnant with my last daughter, I decided I wanted to be successful with the breastfeeding journey. I was in a much different place, older, wiser, more patience. I also had a more supportive spouse, and time to slow down and take the time to making it work. I did a ton of research, and a friend was pregnant and breastfeeding at the same time with me, so we were able to support each other through it.
I successfully breastfed Kalynda until she was 14 months, when she chose to end our journey together and self-wean (while I was 7 months pregnant with her baby brother). That was an amazing, wonderful, beautiful experience for me. 14 months isn’t as far as some extended nursers have gone- but when the longest I had gone previously was 3 months, I was very proud of it. I am currently almost 1 year into breastfeeding my son (he turns 1 next week!). Both experiences have been so beautiful to me.

I know a lot of breastfeeding mamas find it to be a very intimate experience. I would love to capture a few moments for you to enjoy when the little babe you now hold in your arms is grown, and even out of your house with a family of their own. A nursing session is an intimate session while I capture these precious moments behind the lens. They can be a lifestyle session, just simply in your home, in the comfort of your favorite rocker, on the couch, laying in bed- however you want- or a more styled session with flowing gowns and coordinated outfits, or a skin-to-skin raw session. Your nursling can be newborn or a toddler. I just want to share these moments with you, and give you something to cherish forever.
